Jazz, Country, Hip-Hop: The Sounds That Made America

Much of the world’s favorite music was born in America.

Jazz grew out of New Orleans, blues out of the Mississippi Delta, and country out of Appalachia and Nashville. Rock ’n’ roll exploded in the 1950s, and hip-hop was born at Bronx block parties in the 1970s.

Today these genres mix freely, from country-trap to jazz-infused R&B, keeping American music constantly reinventing itself.
